01What the journey looks like
Bangkok to Ban Phe pier (the Koh Samet ferry terminal in Rayong) is 220 km via Motorway 7 → Highway 3 (Sukhumvit Road) → Ban Phe. Off-peak: 3 to 3.5 hours including one comfort stop at a roadside coffee or lunch spot we use regularly. Friday afternoon adds roughly 60 minutes. Total flat fare ฿12,000 covers tolls, parking at the pier, fuel, chilled water, USB-C, 5G Wi-Fi — passenger ferry tickets are bought at the pier (THB 70–200 per pax depending on operator + speed).
02Ferry connection at Ban Phe
Two main operators run Ban Phe → Koh Samet: scheduled passenger ferries (cheap, 30–60 min, every 30–60 min daylight hours, last sailing ~17:00) and private speedboats (THB 400–600/pax, 15–20 min, on-demand until ~19:00). Your chauffeur drops you at the pier matched to your resort's preferred landing — Na Dan pier (the main island entry) for most hotels, or direct speedboat charters to Ao Wong Duean / Ao Phai / Ao Phrao for premium beaches on the far side.
03Why we don't cross to the island
Cars can't bring tourists onto Koh Samet — the island restricts vehicle access to residents and resort songthaews. Your chauffeur hands off at the pier; the resort's own pickup (speedboat or songthaew + walk) handles the island side. We coordinate timing with the resort concierge in advance so a shuttle meets your boat — flag your hotel on the booking form and we'll arrange.
04FAQ
- Does the price include the ferry?
- No — the flat THB 12,000 covers Bangkok-to-pier transfer (door to ferry terminal). Passenger ferry tickets are bought at the pier in cash: scheduled ferry THB 70–100/pax, speedboat THB 400–600/pax. Buying at the pier gives flexibility to pick your departure time on arrival.
- Can you drop us right at the hotel on Koh Samet?
- Not directly — tourist vehicles can't cross to the island. The chauffeur drops at Ban Phe pier. Most luxury Koh Samet resorts (Paresa, Le Vimarn, Sai Kaew Beach Resort) run shuttles from Na Dan pier or the speedboat landings; we coordinate timing with the hotel concierge in advance so a shuttle or songthaew meets your boat.
- What's the latest pickup time we should book?
- For a same-day ferry crossing, plan your Bangkok pickup so you reach Ban Phe by 16:00 at the latest — that catches the last reliable scheduled-ferry departure (around 17:00). After that, speedboats run until ~19:00. If your Bangkok flight arrives late, we either route directly to a Ban Phe-side hotel for the night and cross first ferry the next morning, or charter a speedboat for the late crossing. Tell us your flight or pickup time during booking and we'll plan around it.
